Cat portraits at home
I love painting Cats in my London studio. Capturing the personality and beauty of a much loved furry friend gives me a huge amount of pleasure. At present, I am owned by Cecil our family cat. He lives with us at our home in North London. As a feline fanatic I have always had cats as family pets, most of them coming from the wonderful Cats protection charity and I have always enjoyed painting cat portraits.
Painting cats in different mediums and styles
Over the years, I have painted cats through many different mediums and in many varied impressionistic styles, from graphic, flattened forms to textural fluffy cats with layers and layers of painted fur. I try to explore new ways in which to paint cats but keep certain features the same. I love to stylise the feline form, for example, extend the whiskers and increase the fluff.
Designing your cat portraits
The complexities and intricacies of each cat makes for very interesting subject matter in a painting. Not only is every breed of cat different in their physical characteristics, but even within a family of cats, each individual cat may have a very different personality.
Likewise each cat portrait is completely unique and can be designed in your chosen style, colour palette and size. Before starting any painting, I need clear detailed photographs that display your cats characteristics and in what position you want them painted. If you live near to London, a visit can be arranged, so that I can gain greater insight into the appearance and personality of your feline friend.
Staging your cat portrait
There are so many ways to paint a cat. A close up of the face or a full body portrait. Perhaps you want a quirky piece where the cat lies at the bottom. The choice is yours. I can paint on any coloured ground so if your favourite is bright orange, then that’s what I will do.
Below is a selection of my latest cat portraits. If you are interested in commissioning me to paint a portrait of your feline friend, please contact me at my London studio.
